May 6th

Today we woke up around 7:30 and started our day with a very long drive and a very sad story. We visited a woman in her home where she told us the story of her son who was killed in a tragic terrorist attack at the Otniel Yeshiva. She wrote a children’s book from the point of view of her youngest son (five years old at the time of his brother’s death) and how he and his family coped with their loss. We learned a lot about persistence even in the face of adversity and really appreciated her sharing her story with us.

After this we drove up to the De Karina Chocolate factory where we learned about the history of chocolate, saw how the chocolate is made, and finally got to make some of our own. We made mountains of deliciousness…YUM!

We then drove up to the Bental Mountain and saw an outstanding view. You could see practically all of Israel. It was beyond gorgeous. We saw the Syrian border and learned about Israel’s wars with Syria. It was pretty amazing. Our madricihim (counselors) bought us cheesecake and chocolate cake in a cafĂ© that overlooked this amazing view.

We then drove to an actual restaurant for lunch, and had pasta, pizza, bread, salad, and more. It was pretty good.

After our tummies got full we went back to our hotel to get ready for Shabbat. We can’t wait for our first Shabbat together on this trip! Be back tomorrow night! Shabbat Shalom!
